Scenic Spirit- river cruiser brochure shoot

A few of the lifestyle shots from Scenic’s SE Asia brochure campaign shoot can be seen in the Lifestyle gallery.

The three day photo shoot was shared with an Australian TV crew from Sydney who were shooting a walkthrough video piece. While we shot in one area of the ship, the Aussie TV guys would be in another area, exchanging actors as we went through the day.

The Scenic Spirit sailed from My Tho Vietnam in the Mekong Delta to Phnom Penh Cambodia. No guests were on board but the ship’s Cambodian hospitality crew were there to take care of meals and cabins as well as acting in the shots. A great experience working with the Scenic art department and fun loving Aussie actors. Plus the food was excellent!

Chum Mey S21 Survivor

Returning to a work in progress portrait photography project Dreamyland with this picture of Chum Mey. Chum May is one of 3 left alive today of just a few who survived the infamous Phnom Penh security prison known as S21 during the Khmer Rouge era in 70s Cambodia. An estimated 20000 men. women and children were tortured at the former Phnom Penh high school in Tuol Sleng district, before execution at Chung Ek on the outskirts of Phnom Penh, one of the many killing fields found across the country.

Most days Chum Mey can be found speaking with tourists and selling his autobiographical book “Survivor” at the Tuol Sleng Genocide museum along with fellow survivor Bou Meng.

I came across this informative 2016 BBC article by Kirstie Brewer about the two survivors at S21.

Silkwinds Inflight - Phnom Penh Cocktails

Another editorial shoot for INK Publishing and Silkwinds, Silk Air's inflight magazine. The article was written by Jamie Fullerton about Phnom Penh's trendy cocktail bar scene. The images were a mix of pop-up studio product photography, one light portrait photography and some event style shooting as well as some night photos. The five establishments were situated around the Bassac Lane and Toul Thom Pung market areas of Phnom Penh. Below are the tear sheets taken from the online publication (found here).

Prudential print ads

Commercial print ads photo shoot for Prudential, shot at Plus Max studio in Phnom Penh. Agency Champagne, producer Piseth Chea, art director Sola Aurelien. This otherwise easy shoot was a nightmare, as the very young children casted, under 4 years old were completely unmanageable and cried the whole time.

What could have been shot in half a day went to about 10 hours + with little success when it came to the younger none talents. I managed to get hold of one of the final layouts pictured here. In the end we managed to capture a few good images with the very young kids looking good and happy. But haven't seen the final layouts yet. The young boy pictured here was excellent, he was about 7 years old.
